Intergenerational Inequality: Evidence from Spain

چکیده

This paper documents the evolution of the inequalities between generations in Spain, analyzing the trends of income and net worth during the last decade for households headed by adults of different age cohorts. Using data from the Spanish Survey of Household Finance (EFF) we document a deterioration of the situation of the young in terms of mean and median income and net worth in 2011 compared to 2002. However, we do not find that the younger cohorts have a higher probability of being in the first quintile or a lower probability of being in the highest quintile of the distribution in 2011 compared to 2002. We discuss the results and we propose further approaches to this analysis. †The Author acknowledges financial support to the Spanish Ministry of Economics and Competition, project ECO2012-37496, titled ”Los equilibriums intergeneracionales del bienestar social”
